Corporate Wellness: Ngozi Ojora Speaks at the NLNG Executive Retirement Programme

We’ve all heard the saying, “health is wealth.” In my younger years, I didn’t fully grasp the depth of that truth. But through a lifelong passion for active living, combined with years of study, observation, and practice, I have come to appreciate the infinite value of health.

That is why it’s always a joy for me to share my knowledge in Health and Wellness in an advisory capacity. Recently, I had the privilege of being invited by the Lagos Business School Executive Programme to speak at the NLNG (Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas) Retirement Programme in London, where I addressed the topic of Health and Wellness with their C-Suite Executives.

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) is the global Nigerian energy company, responsible for harnessing and exporting Nigeria’s natural gas resources. Since its incorporation in 1989, NLNG has become well known for demonstrating integrity, operational excellence, innovation, and leadership. It was both humbling and rewarding to engage with such an accomplished audience of professionals, at such a pivotal stage of their lives.

Too often, busy executives are absorbed with managing their companies, families and other competing interests. So much so, that they forget to look after numero uno - themselves!

When you’re constantly chasing the next deal or caring for others, self-care can easily be deferred and eventually neglected. Yet, to look after others effectively, one must first prioritize their personal well-being.

During my session, we explored the Six Dimensions of Wellness:

  • Emotional

  • Intellectual

  • Occupational

  • Physical

  • Social

  • Spiritual

My goal was to guide the executive men and women approaching retirement, on how to apply the six dimensions of wellness to cultivate a life that’s not just long, but joyful, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling. For many executives, the word “retirement” immediately triggers thoughts of finance. And while financial planning is undeniably important, it’s far from the whole picture.

The real takeaway? Lasting fulfillment in retirement comes from sustaining a sense of purpose and relevance, while actively nurturing balance across all six dimensions of wellness.
